Getting Grounded in the Kitchen
There is nowhere else that I spend more of my waking hours than in my kitchen and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Adventure is one of my top human needs and food is one of the biggest ways I fulfill it.
I am constantly on a quest to try something new and to learn how food can create health and enable longevity. There are always several experiments going on in my kitchen during any given week so I thought I’d share more about what I’m working on and learning.
Ingredient awareness; participation in the alchemical processes we call baking and cooking; gratitude for our plant, animal and beneficial bacteria friends: these are the things that I believe make us grounded in the kitchen.
Being grounded in this way is especially important for those of us living in the American food culture. Unfortunately, many of the foods available and heavily marketed (a lot of them not even really foods, but rather food products) are calorie laden but nutrient poor and lead to heart and metabolic diseases that plague our society. Not only are conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol and type 2 diabetes avoidable; they’re REVERSIBLE through diet and lifestyle.
I hope you’ll join me as I explore foods, practices and remedies that create health and well being and prove that eating mindfully really does lead to living optimally.
